Resisting The Dreaded Vacation Impulse Buy

Updated: Oct 24, 2019

As my family Disney Cruise vacation draws closer to the end, ducking and dodging the various gift shop traps daily, with my daughter in-tow, has been a challenge this week. After all, it's Disney, and anything you wish, can come true, right?

Well, those same purchase temptations are everywhere for the adults too. Many a watch collector, rookies and veterans alike, have been unable to resist the temptation of bringing something shiny and new, back home from vacation.

So there I was today, daydreaming at the Hublot display, which led to window shopping at the Breitling, Tag Heuer, and Tissot displays. And of course, every collector can always justify, in their own mind, the need to acquire one more timepiece.

But just as the bad angel on my left shoulder, gave me every possible convoluted reason for pulling the trigger on a cruise ship watch, the good angel on my right shoulder became the voice of reason, reminding me that there's always a better deal to be had, when you avoid the impulse buy, and shop around.

So it is, I'll be leaving the ship empty handed, other than my beer, liquor, and wine purchases, but happy knowing I didn't overpay for a timepiece, that may, or may not be a keeper. Just some food for thought.
