Watch of the day

What's my wrist-wear choice for today?

Parnis, Big Pilot (Sterile Dial), Mechanical

My wrist-wear choice for Thursday, is a new addition to the collection, the Parnis, Big Pilot, Mechanical, sterile dial. In my opinion, as any watch collection matures, there are two must-haves, a vintage Pilot, or Flieger timepiece, and a mechanical hand-cranker timepiece. This Parnis effectively kills two of those birds, with one stone.

There's just something about the simplicity of a vintage, World War II style Flieger (Pilot) watch. Perhaps it is the stark contrasts between the index markers and matte black finished dial, or just the clean dial presentation that a vintage pilot affords. This Parnis has all that, with the addition of a sterile dial, meaning no branding, giving this dial an even cleaner look. Some vintage Flieger designs will also incorporate a coin-edging around the bezel, but I happen to like the polished look on the bezel of this Parnis. The tapered, brown leather strap, minus the rivets, adds to the authenticity of this vintage pilot look.

Pairing this fly flieger, with a custom-made, beaded bracelet, designed by Beads By Gonzo, to match the stark contrasts present in the dial.
