Watch of the day (WOTD)

What's my wrist-wear choice for today?

My Flavor Of The Day

Saturday marks the 45 anniversary of the release of the Jaws movie. And to mark this day, there is no other timepiece that I could've selected as my watch-of-the-day, than the Alsta Watch, Nautoscaph - Superautomatic, the hallowed "Jaws Watch".

The "Hooper" watch, as it is known in watch collecting circles, is the iconic timepiece that Richard Dreyfuss' character, the Marine Biologist Matt Hooper, wore in the movie. This reissue piece, from the revived Alsta Watch brand, is a near perfect recreation of the original. I love timepieces that have a great backstory, making them excellent conversation pieces, and this Superautomatic most definitely qualifies.

The Superautomatic originally shipped on a fantastic Tropic strap. Tropic, is an iconic, vintage strap maker, whose straps were prominently used back in the 1970s. So it just made sense for Alsta to use a Tropic strap for the reissue of the Superautomatic. But Alsta knew, the metal, racing strap style bracelet from the movie, was a must to be added to this timepiece. Speidel, the maker of the original metal bracelet, still has some new-old-stock versions of the "Hooper" bracelet available for purchase, but the Alsta Watch interpretation of the "Hooper" bracelet, is rock solid, and changes the whole personality of the Superautomatic; kind of like graduating from a Tiger Shark, to a Great White.

And no Jaws watch would be complete, without a theme bracelet as a wrist companion. Riding shotgun with the Superautomatic today, is a shark, rope bracelet, designed by Dorsal Bracelet Company. Not sure about a bigger boat, but I'm sure a bigger watch box is in my future.
